Pricing and availability

Motorola has not yet said anything about its Xyboard tablets. So no details about its pricing and availability are there. Meanwhile, Motorola will sell its revamped Xoom 2 for a price of £396 ($620).

What’s great?

As per rumors, Xyboard 10.1 is meant for business users. The device comes with a stylus to make things easy for enterprise users. At the same time, Xyboard 8.2 looks like a media centric tablet with 2.1 virtual surround sound system with a subwoofer. In fact, both tablets will be powered by dual core processors, front and rear cameras and most likely with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the latest update to Google Android platform. Besides being 4G LTE radios, the Xyboard tablets will support rocking GSM/WCDMA capabilities. They will run on Verizon Wireless’ full-fledged 4G LTE connectivity.

What’s not so great?

It is almost clear that Motorola is designing its Xyboard tablets with dual core processor, not with the advanced quad core processors. It is a time technology makers such as Asus, Lenovo, Toshiba, HTC and Samsung are about to come up with Tegra 3 powered high performing tablets. The Taiwanese technology maker Asus has already announced its Eee Pad Transformer Prime as the first quad core-powered tablet in the world. It is here Motorola is still working with two new tablets with dual core processors.

Moreover, it is heard that Motorola’s upcoming tablets will run on Android 3.2 Honeycomb. Google has just launched Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the best ever Android version for tablet PCs. In such a time, the Libertyville technology maker should have Ice Cream Sandwich on its upcoming tablets.

Things to watch out for

Motorola should learn some lessons from its failure with Xoom original. The company uncovered Xoom touting as the first 4G LTE, dual core and Honeycomb tablet in April 2010. However, due to many reasons including the delay to get upgraded with 4G LTE radio Motorola Xoom was judged as a failure. The tablet did not attract much more customers. It is then the company has announced Xoom 2 only with some slight changes in design and display from its original version. Motorola is keeping up the same processor and the same software on Xoom 2. And so, it is high time the company should roll out tablets with Tegra 3 processor and Android Ice Cream Sandwich otherwise it could not survive in the tablet market early next year.

Verdict

In fact, we have less information about the upcoming Motorola Xyboards. Indeed, it seems that Motorola has also decided to go in the way of Samsung to bring out tablets in various screen sizes. If the company uncovers a 10.1-inch and 8.2-inch Xyboard tablets for early next year with better tech specs and software, Motorola can remain a real challenger to all technology makers. For that, the company should primarily asses reasons for the failure of its first Android tablet Xoom and act in accordance.

Anyway, as per reports, we are about to get two brilliant tablets from Motorola. With the high performing 4G LTE connectivity of Verizon, the new Motorola tablets can make some movements in the congested tablet market. The devices can boost up reputation of the company as a leading maker of Android products. Indeed, there are reports that the new tablets will follow the highly successful Motorola RAZR smartphone in design.
