How to do xp monitor settings?

I have an old hp desktop and along with it hp monitor which is running on windows XP. But the problem is that my monitor is not remembering previous settings and I have to change it everytime when I log into my system after restarting it. I tried to find a solution of this problem but could not find anything. If someone has any experience with xp monitor settings please tell me also ……a straight forward reply will be appreciated …..thanks in advance.

We hope you enjoy the new design of the project Musical Plates Movement as well as new sections for the teacher and students and new resources. For best viewing, you must first open the browser window the full width of the screen of your computer and set the resolution of your computer screen at 800 x 600 pixels or a higher (eg, 1024 x 768). If you are unfamiliar with how to do this, locate the type of computer you have from the list below and then follow the instructions. It would also be helpful to print these instructions.
PCs with Windows XP

Select the Start menu, then Control Panel.

Select Appearance and Themes
Select Change the screen resolution
In the Display Properties area, move the lever under screen resolution to 800 x 600 pixels or higher (ie 1024 x 768) and click OK.
After changing the screen resolution, a dialog box prompts you to save these settings. Click Yes to save.
Someone tell me how to configure a monitor with windows 2000 and xp.

Before when I used W98, had no problems, it was easy to change the monitor and gave you the option to select from a list the make and model.

But now I can not, I find as Windows 2000 and XP, even as adding hardware, and that gives me the option to add a monitor, video adapter only.

In this lesson we will learn how to change monitor resolution, so we will ensure that if an application needs a higher resolution than we have today, no problems using it. First, we must display the context menu (shown below) and click properties.

Once we have agreed to the properties window you will see that at the top there are tabs as shown below, we will have access to the Settings tab.

In the Settings window you will see a box like this where we can set the screen resolution and color quality.

At the top you will see a thumbnail preview as it appears in the image below.

Finally click Apply and then OK on the buttons we will see in the bottom of the window. Buttons as shown below.
