Is it a wise choice to go with Garmin GSD 22 for my boat GPS?

I am getting ready to purchase a GarminGPS MAP 5212 which I want to interface with a Garmin GSD 22 WSounder, a Garmin GMR 18 HD Radar and a Garmin VHF 200 Marine Radio. Is it a wise choice to go with Garmin GSD 22 for my boat GPS? I want to make sure what I am ordering is all the right components to interface. Please help. I want to order in next couple of day because boat will be going into yard for work and I want to have installed while in the yard. So, I hope to hear soon from you guys out there. Thanks.

Well the Garmin GSD 22 is made as a gps specially for the marine network and it is not at all a bad idea to go with the Garmin GSD 22. The GSD 22 is very good performer underwater, where it can be functional even below depth of 5000 fts. As you want to interface it with the Garmin gps map 5212, there are no problems of compatibility of both the devices.

In the box you will get

  • GSD 22
  • Marine network cable
  • Data cable
  • CANet cable
  • Cable grommet
  • installation instruction book

This gps device is able to produce up to 1000 Watts of output, but it is cable of handling 500 Watts only. The GSD22 is waterproof where it can be kept underwater at a depth of 1 meter for 30 minutes. This device shows good results even at the depth of 2000 feets depending on the frequency selected.

This is a very good device to go with and absolutely no problems at all.
