Nokia has just updated its Transport service which would now see the addition of more precise directions and route maps in segments. The more intuitive interface comes along a redesign that will be included with Symbian as well as its Windows Phone 7 and 8 phones with the latter getting the most feature changes.
The new update will allow users to view, keep or delete route histories, have a countdown timer for departure times of public transport and toggle between distances in kilometers and miles. A future destination and travel date can also be entered to select route plans and view routes in the "plan-ahead" feature.
Symbian, however, gets a much different update with the new app being offered as a beta version. This means that whenever an area extension is pushed out, users can simply get over-the-air coverage updates. An overall improved search function and user experience is also offered with the Symbian update. At the moment, Nokia Transport covers over 53 countries and 550 cities and the database is constantly being grown and expanded to include more routes and destinations. Users can also visit the Nokia website to check whether the navigation/mapping service covers an area they are interested in visiting.
