Why isn’t my windows explorer responding?

It has almost been two years that I have been using Windows Vista Premium hassle free. It’s been only week that I am facing some strange problems with it. It’s like every time I try to open a document with Windows Explorer and delete something it hangs up on me. The files that I am talking about are mostly compressed files in Zip format and I use SecureZip as my default zip program. IS there any solution to my problem? I am really tired of being left empty handed after spending hours on internet for solutions. Do I need to get it to the service center to get it serviced?

The windows explorer not responding is a common occurrence in Windows Vista. You should perform some of the steps below to rectify the problem. First you have to make sure your computer is in a clean boot state. To perform a clean boot you have to login to using the admin username and password. Start Run using the start menu or Win + R button combination. Type in msconfig.exe in the Run box and click on enter to start the configuration utility. In that go the General tab and click on selective startup and clear the load startup items checkbox. Go to services tab and hide all the Microsoft services and disable them from startup. Click on and restart the computer. This should correct all the problem related to boot state which usually affects Windows Explorer. If the problem is not solved, boot into safe mode and check if the error is coming up again. Do an SFC scan to check if there are any corrupt system files in your computer. To perform an SFC scan click on Start and type cmd and press enter. In the user account control prompt click on OK and at the command prompt box type sfc/scannow and press enter. You might be asked to insert Windows Vista disk at some point of the scan.
