Why did my windows 7 memory diagnostic showing problem while I am opening?

I am running windows 7 for long time and I haven’t come across this yet, so this is what happened in shorter version: I was using my computer when the screen just went black. I just thought to myself its probably something wrong with my memory so i ran the Memory Diagnostic Tool, I picked the first choice that it recommended Save work and restart the system. I am really very confused, I will be happy if someone can help me as soon as possible.

Diagnosing memory problems on your computer

If Windows detects possible problems with the computer's memory, you are asked whether to run the memory diagnostic tool.

Running the Memory Diagnostics Tool

When you receive a notification about a possible memory problem, click the notification to choose between two options when you run the memory diagnostic tool.

If you choose to restart the computer and run the tool immediately, make sure to save your work and close all running programs. The Memory Diagnostics Tool will run automatically when Windows restarts. It may take several minutes for the tool has finished checking the computer's memory. Once testing is complete, Windows will automatically reboot. If the tool detects errors, contact the computer manufacturer for information on fixing them as memory errors usually indicate a problem with the memory chips in your computer or hardware problem.

Advanced options for running the memory diagnostic tool

We recommend that you leave the memory diagnostic tool to run automatically. However, advanced users might want to adjust the tool settings. Here's how:

  1. When the Memory Diagnostics Tool starts, press F1.
  2. You can adjust the following settings:
  • Test the mixture. Choosing which type of test you want to perform: Basic, Standard, or Extended. The options are described in the tool.
  • Cache. Choose the desired cache configuration for each test: by default, enabled or disabled.
  • Pass account. Enter the number of times to repeat the test.

3. Press F10 to start the test.
