At the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Wikipad Inc. made its presence felt with the release of its snap-on gamepad, dubbed as Wikipad. The 8-inch 3D tablet promises to offer tough competition to a large array of Android tablets unveiled at the event. Mounting the gamepad, the Wikipad tablet gets a set of additional buttons and pads to control games. Well, the tablet will flaunt two analog control sticks, start and select buttons, a directional pad and a four game pad buttons. These buttons and pads help users play games smoothly on the slate.

Wikipad will run on the latest version of Android, the Ice Cream Sandwich. The gadget comes with 1080p video playback, 8GB of built-in memory with a microSD slot for 64GB memory expansion and front and back cameras. The device also mounts a micro USB 2.0 plug and it runs for six hours on battery power alone. These specs are enough to make Wikipad a high-end gaming tablet.
The tablet can leap between 3D and 2D contents on the go. Thus, apart from games, you can watch 3D films quite superbly on the tablet. To watch 3D content, no glasses are required. Wikipad plans to sell the tablet for $300 shortly. The device will come up with a handful of 3D content and educational games, Wikipad says.
Describing it a tablet for serious gamers, Wikipad aims to grab the attention of hardcore gamers. The company has reached an agreement with Gaikai to bring many more titles to the tablet for streaming. The company also plans to make its snap-on gamepad functional as a standalone game controller for Apple iPad.
