The mirror display is an interactive and web enabled mirror that you can control by hand gestures thanks to IR sensors. The mirror has a large monitor behind it, which helps display contents on its surface. A user is expected to swipe an icon from the right side of the mirror to its middle, where the icon will open up. Recently, its designers have added four such widgets to the web-enabled display, which include Calendar, Traffic, News and Weather.

The huge web enabled display was developed by Daniel Burnham, Anuj Patel and Sam Bell for ECE 4180 class at the Georgia Institute of Technology. The mirror display has been built up using materials like a half-silvered mirror, an LCD display, seven IR reflective sensors, a sonar distance sensor and ebox. These materials work behind the large mirror display, which can be used in various applications, from educational purpose to your bathroom mirror.
The IR sensors, which are placed beside the mirror, detect hand gestures of users. Further, the display works smoothly with the usage of ebox, Windows CE, phidgets interface to sensors and others. The sonar sensor alerts the display when someone comes close to it. Most of these components including IR sensors are placed beside the display. They would have been either integrated to a wooden frame or inside the mirror display for more professional look, analysts suggest.
The mirror display has a great interface, indeed. The C# form interface helps roll up contents on the entire screen. Four widget icons are placed along the right side of the screen. Users are required to handpick a widget and to swipe it on top of the screen from right to left to expand it on the screen. Soon the widget will open up on the entire screen with the recent data.
Moreover, there is a bar in the right side to scroll down the expanded widgets. Well, its makes the screen a perfect platform for news reading, viewing calendar, traffic and weather updates. See the video below to know more about the functioning of the web enabled screen.
Designers of the mirror display have, in fact, placed four commonly used widgets for testing purpose, namely News, Calendar, Traffic and Weather. All these icons are necessary on any device; however, more such widgets can be added on the display. Indeed, these widgets work only with the help of internet connectivity. You can now check the status of traffic and weather while doing morning ritual in your bathroom.
Some analysts have aptly suggested that the mirror display could have a voice recognition interface rather than a touch interface. It would help users surf through the news, weather and traffic conditions even from a distance in their bathroom or other places the display is located.
