The movie DVD has files stored in such a format on the disc. The DVD -video disc contains two main root folders known as AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS .These folders contain files which contain the various properties of the video of the movie.

The AUDIO_TS folder is usually empty. AUDIO_TS folder is used to store DVD - Audio but is a separate format to DVD video. This empty folder estalishes the disc as a working DVD disc.

The DVD movie files are stored in the VIDEO_TS folder.

This folder contains the relevant info such as information (IFO) and back-up (BUP) files that are required for the DVD to even be read.

In video editing, IFO normally refers to a file on the disc and stands for InFOrmation. The .IFO files provide information for DVD player where certain audio tracks are located, video disc's chapters start, etc..

The .BUP files found on the discs are simply backup copies of the.IFO files and are only needed if the original .IFO files on disc get corrupted.

The .VOB files contain the required MPEG-2 audio, subtitle & video streams. These are the files containing the movie.

The whole movie would probably not be in a single file and would be divided among two to three parts. You can later on copy these onto your system, and use video editing to join them into a single file.
