Once upon a time there were net books which had taken the world by storm with its thin and stylish looks. Not any more! The world today belongs to Ultra books! What was initially Intel's laptop sub-segment has now actually made into retail shelves of companies like Acer, Lenovo and Toshiba too. In fact, the year 2012 is definitely going to be a year of Ultra books! Here is a look at some of the cool ones that have taken the world by storm in 2011 itself!

1. Samsung series 9 ultrabook
This is one ultrabook which has some great design! It looks slim and sexy and add to that the ultra thinness and you have a winner! On the Processor Front, it has a Quad-core i7 2610M 1.5gHz ”sandy bridge” processor, and nothing takes more than a second to open! The ultra book weighs less than 3 pounds and even the bag that you get with the laptop weighs more than the laptop itself! The most wonderful thing about this master machine is that its chassis is made from durilium, which is actually a material used to build most air crafts! The battery too lasts up to 7 hours, which is longer than most laptops.

This is the updated version of the Acer Aspire S3 Ultrabook. With the update, this Ultrabook now possesses the best technical specifications along with the best of style! It has a 240GB solid state drive (SSD) and a 1.7GHz ‘Sandy Bridge’ Intel Core i7-2637M processor. Then there is the 13.3 inch display which has a resolution of 1366x768 pixels, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, 4GB RAM, Bluetooth 4.0, 1.3 megapixel webcam, card reader, two USB 2.0 ports, HDMI output and a 3280 mAh battery! This Ultrabook is the lightest Ultrabook yet and has a host of features like USB 3.0, WiDi 2.0 and a full sized HDMI. Also, it has one of the longest battery lives and though the processing and graphics are on the lower side and there is a small touch pad this Ultrabook nevertheless has got a design that is sure to wow anytime!

4. Lenovo IdeaPad U300s, New Ultrabook
This Ultrabook series from Lenovo are also called the Lenovo IdeaPad U300s. Weighing around 1.3 Kg and being only 14.9 mm thick, this Ultrabook is even thinner than the Macbook Air! It uses i7 technology and has a 13.3 inches screen. There is the built-in graphics of Intel HD 3000. Though the Ultrabook has the capacity to add upto 1TB HDD storage, those who do not want to compromise with the speed might just bring home the solid state drive with a 356GB storage space. The battery life is nearly 8 hours and lasts more than most laptops.

5. Toshiba Portege Z830 Series Ultrabook
This one is Toshiba's first Ultrabook, from the Portege Z830 Series. This Ultrabook will surely be known for its durability, its light weight, being only 15.9 mm thick and the fact that it has a magnesium alloy casing! Using a 2nd Generation Core processor and up to 6GB of RAM this Ultrabook also sports a 1.3 Megapixel camera and a 8 hour battery, among others.

6. The HP Folio
The HP too jumped on the bandwagon of the Ultrabook segment with the launch of the HP Folio, which HP claims gives a battery life of about 9 hours which is yet the longest. The World's 'first business Ultrabook' as HP calls it, has a TPM [Trusted Platform Module] Embedded Security Chip. This protects data in e-mail as well as information on the hard drive and is a great source of comfort for professionals plagued by the concern of their data being stolen. Among the specs, the Folio has 4GB RAM and uses Intel i5 Core processors and is about 18 mm thick weighing 3.3 pounds.

7. Asus Zenbook UX21
This is a new launch by Asus and is called the Asus Zenbook UX21E. One of the thinnest, being only 3 mm thick at front and 9mm at the rear this Ultrabook uses spun metal and hairline aluminum to give itself some great stylish looks. It uses Intel's Sandy Bridge Core i7 2677M mobile dual-core processor, and has 4GB of DDR3-1333 memory, with a 128GB SATA 3 SSD.
