various types of operating systems to use at home?

Hi...The operating system was first introduced by Microsoft when they came with the black screen and that was called MSDOS. Then it was better shown and configured by apple and that's when the competition started. Since then Microsoft has almost dominated the entire computer industry with some great operating systems with some amazingly cool facilities. Since then Microsoft came with Windows 98,windows 2003, windows xp, windows vista and windows 7. Now Microsoft is about to come with their newer versions of OS and that will be called as Windows 8. There are some other companies too, who has taken initiatives and achieved a lot. Apple's mac operating system is really famous but its complexity is that it is only used by people who are having mac computers. There are other OS in the market like Unix and are gaining a lot of popularity. I hope i have fully answered you question. Thanks a lot.
