Can I make my taskbar transparent in Vista?

Can I make my taskbar transparent in Vista? I recently got a new computer with Vista (I'm behind the curve, I know) and I'd like to know if I can make the background of the taskbar transparent. Google produces a number of weird and contradictory answers which are confusing me all the more. Will you please help me out with some easy to understand systematic steps?

To start with, yes you can make your Windows Vista's taskbar transparent by following some easy steps. For the purpose, the Windows Aero Glass visual style has to be enabled as well as its settings have to be changed. The steps listed below are to be followed to manage the transparency of the Vista taskbar:

1. First of all, you need to right click on your desktop area, and then select "Personalize" from the context menu. This option is usually listed as the last one on the context menu. A menu will show up if the Windows Aero Glass style is not selected currently. This is the "Appearance Settings" menu.

2. You need to select "Windows Aero" under the "Color Scheme" menu. Click "OK". Now open your windows and the Vista taskbar should now be partially transparent. To tweak the level of transparency, continue to the next step.

3. Return to the "Personalization" menu and then select "Windows Color and Appearance".

4. Place a check mark in the box labeled "Enable Transparency".

5. You can select a color jewel at the top of the window. This setting indicates the general color which will be used to open Windows and the taskbar.

6. You can also adjust the "Color Intensity" slider to lower or raise the level of transparency. The leftmost position indicates that the window elements are more transparent while at the rightmost position, the elements are more opaque.

7. Finally, to save the settings, click "OK".
