Sharp has surfaced a breakthrough next-gen display, a jaw-droppingly impressive 85-inch LCD TV with 8K resolution at CES 2012. It is the world’s first 8K ultra high definition HD display. The 8K LCD means 16 times higher resolution than the standard Full HD that we buy from stores today. CES 2012 has brought on lots of 4K LCD TVs (four times better than the Full HD). But Sharp has really amazed the spectators with a two times better resolution display than the 4K LCD.

The 4K LCD offers about 4,000 lines of resolution. It is four times higher the resolution the 1080p HD display in use today. The new Sharp display has a monstrous resolution of 7680 x 4320 pixels, i.e. almost 8000 mark. Thus, it is two times better than the 4K LCD displays. Sharp had put on display this exhilarating LCD at the IFA 2011. On both occasions, crowds packed into the booth of the Japanese display leader to have a glimpse of the ground-shattering display panel.
The 85-inch ultra high resolution display houses a total of 33,177,600 pixels. Stunningly, it equals 103-67 ppi (pixels per inch). The new generation display technology, which is called Super Hi-Vision or Ultra HD, can even bring you a 3D-like experience thanks to seamless high resolution. Even if you watch 2D videos on the Sharp display, the enormous TV appears almost 3D in some sequences. The level of details of visuals on the TV is clearly amazing. The Sharp 8K TV also mounts a trio of 33 megapixel sensors to capture ultra-HD images.
Sharp has manufactured this 85-inch LCD panel using its proprietary VA panel technology. Colors were replicated in 10 bit on the TV in comparison to 8 bit in regular consumer TVs. So is the brightness that has peaked at 300 cd/m2. There is less chance that Sharp can introduce the breakthrough display technology to consumer TVs anytime soon. It is because there is virtually no 8K resolution video content available at the moment. However, the company promises it is working to bring the direct-view LCD high vision to the mass market in near future.
In fact, there are no Blu-ray players, web streaming services or any other formats of telecasts that provide 8K video content today. Possibly, the 2012 Olympics may be broadcast in this 8K ultra resolution TV just for a showoff. Indeed, there is no near possibility for the ultra HD display to land in our living rooms. Sharp will be able to surface the technology on consumer TVs in several years. Let us see what the company promises in its CES 2012 press release.
These fully immersive units offer dramatically higher resolution than any current HDTV televisions, with an astounding 7680 pixels of horizontal resolution. Unique LCD-panel and proprietary high-vision video content driving technologies position Sharp to realise direct-view LCD high vision for the mass market in the near future.Via: Dvice
