Is there such a home security camera system that can be monitored from a distance?

I want to put in my parents' home a security camera system where I can see and monitor all from my computer. Both homes are 684 miles apart. Is there such a system that enables me to do so? The camera will have to be discreet. I want to put some on upper wall corners all over the house and a few outside. Is there such a home security camera system that can be monitored from a distance? I would really appreciate your useful information regarding this. Please help. Thanks.

The Internet has provided a number of interesting features to support lifestyles in innovative ways. Using a digital camera device and an Internet connection, it is possible for anyone to create a home monitoring service to view their properties remotely from other locations. The process provides a URL or an IP address only for owners to see the video from your cameras on the Web. Installation of this system is relatively simple but requires some specialized hardware. With a little time and patience, anyone can monitor your house from a distance rather quickly.

Instructions:

  1. Acquire the necessary hardware to create a whole-house surveillance. A conventional wireless router is the backbone of any system. Any Wi-Fi standard is acceptable, including the current "802.11b" protocol that is supported by most wireless routers. Wireless routers are a common device in many home networks, so you can use an existing router if available.
  2. Choosing a wireless webcam. Most wireless web cameras can be connected to a computer system using a variety of methods. For a home monitoring system, the webcam must support an Ethernet connection. Consider buying a webcam from the same manufacturer as the router. This can facilitate the process of connecting the two devices.
  3. Configure the wireless router if not already in place. Connect the router to your PC via an Ethernet cable, and run the installation software CD router.
  4. Turn off the router and the camera prior to the connection.
  5. Connect the camera to the router with standard Ethernet cable. This configuration is necessary for unique and Ethernet cable is removed for complete installation. Turn on the devices after connection.
  6. Run the installation software from the CD supplied with the webcam. The program will request the Service Set Identifier (SSID) wireless network. Use the same name already configured on the wireless router.
