Yes, it’s absolutely possible to directly scan images to Microsoft Office 2007. Although people do face this problem as because the tool that allows scanning directly into Word seems to be missing. But, it isn’t missing. In fact it’s hidden. In order to solve the problem it’s possible to add WordBasic command to Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) which can call the old dialog.

At first click the round office button on your window. At the bottom you will find “Word Options” and "Exit" tab. Please choose the former tab. Then a box will appear. There if you select "Popular" tab, at the other side of the box you will find a highlighted subheading -"Top options for working with Word". From the options you simply select the "Show Developer tab in the Ribbon". Now click "OK". Then if you see carefully you will find that the last tab in the standard toolbar is the "Developer" tab. Just click on that and then click “Macros”. Give a desirable macro name and choose the “Create” button. Immediately the Microsoft Visual Basic- Normal window will appear. Here in between these two statements-1) Sub your macro name ( ) and 2) “End Sub” write this given code:

Sub InsertFromScanner ()
On Error Resume Next
WordBasic.InsertImagerScan

Then close the editor. You can check if the macro code works by clicking the “run” command of the macro you have created under “Macros”. In order to see whether you have successfully done this or not press the tiny down arrow at the right side of QAT tab. Thereafter select “More Commands” button. Mostly, by default the “Customize” button is already selected, but, if it is not selected, then please select it. Next, under “Choose commands from” dialog box go for "macros". Choose the needed macro and click "Add". Subsequently, the macro we have selected appears in the right list of QAT commands.

After this, the process is very simple. But, hold on! The scanner should be TWAIN or WIA compatible plus the software of your scanner should support TWAIN or WIA. If all these are ok, then, just put the scanning object in the scanner. Do the following- Insert>Picture>From Scanner.

And, of course if more than one device is attached to your computer then go for the appropriate device from the Device menu and then click on Insert. Now, sometimes the insert button is absent in the scanners may be because it does not support automatic scanning. You need not worry, just go for the custom insert button.

I know it's a huge process, but I am not aware of any shortcut solution. I hope this helps.
