Why is my Samsung Galaxy GPS not active, it says ‘searching for GPS?’

I have recently purchased a Samsung galaxy s2. The phone is awesome in almost every way. one problem. Google Maps when I am at home using Wi-Fi normally finds my position pretty quickly and fairly accurately. It finds my position when I’m away from home just using 3g accurate within 1000ft. The issue is that the navigation app which comes with the phone which is supposed to give you directions and act as a SatNav find the distance and time to a location I’m trying to get to but just constantly says 'searching for GPS' at the bottom and doesn’t move as you drive. Why is my Samsung Galaxy GPS not active, it says ‘searching for GPS?’ Please advice. Thanks.

The GPS is ACTIVE but it requires satellite coverage. It connects to various satellite signals in order for the positioning system to show your position. It checks for the various satellite signals that are available and connects to them as per the strength of those signals. So higher is the strength of those signals and the better the availability and the connectivity, the better is the positioning accuracy of your Global Positioning System. The quickness of the GPS connection and the accuracy of the positioning due to GPS is better in open areas where there are less trees or near your window when you are inside the house as the signal strength will be better.
