There are two ways to select services that you want your Windows XP to load on startup: Using Windows's system configuration or using a third-party software.

Windows's system configuration is probably the most simplest way to select and manage startup services. In order to select the services using the system configuration, go to:

1. Start.

2. Click on Run.

3. A new 'Run' window will open, type 'msconfig' and press Enter.

4. System Configuration window will open. Select 'Startup' tab and you will be able to see the list of services that the windows run on startup.

5. Deselect (uncheck the checkbox) services that you think is not critical to the functioning of the windows and services that you think is causing the slowdown of your system. [Note: Make sure you do not deselect (uncheck) any system critical services, you can search online about the services before you deselect (uncheck) them].

6. Once you are done, click on 'Okay'. The windows will prompt you to restart the system that you should do and that is all there to it and you are done!

Another way to manage windows's startup services is to download any of the freely available Windows's startup managers from online. All you need to do is to search for Free Windows's Startup Manager in any of the available online search engines and then download it to use it for free.
