If the above provided information is exactly what you have done to get the lock icons on some folders as you are playing with the folder sharing and security options in windows 7. Some of the folders accidentally may get restricted to some homegroup users or to yourself. So, I suggest you to never explore the way you did and cause serious problems. If you have any problem understanding the options in windows 7 just try to google them using internet as it shows you the right path into the light in a professional manner. As you have restricted the folders using sharing option. And if there are more than one user accounts in your pc such as a homegroup, the folders may get restricted or locked and prevent the use of files for further action. So, you are not able to play your favorite movies or relaxing and refreshing things in your pc.

Follow my instructions to get back your folders work again and with no restrictions. Using the sharing tab's share button causes the folder's permissions entries to no longer be inherited from the parent. This causes the lock icon to show up when sharing is cancelled, because inheritance is not restored.

  1. To fix, after restricting the folder:
    Right click on the folder
    Click on Properties tab
    Go to the Security tab
    Click on Advanced
    Now check Change Permissions
    Click include inheritable permissions
Click OK and then apply the settings
  2. This removes all the restrictions on the folders that removes the lock icon on them.
This restores the folder's permissions to the way they were before sharing occurred, and the lock icon is no longer shown. If instead one has shared using the Sharing tab's Advanced Sharing, the inheritance is not broken, and all is well.
