Facing problem in installing a software in ubuntu software manager?

It’s a clean install of Ubunutu 10.10 and the difficulty I am facing is that whenever I try to download a program I am constantly getting an error even though I didn't install any of the updates when the window first popped up. Is this the reason for the problem or any other issue with this? Help me guys.

Note that not all applications available for Ubuntu are available by default to be installed. It will be necessary to enable the possibility of installing some applications manually.

The main ways to install applications are:

The Ubuntu software center. A simple application that lets you add or remove packages from your system very easily.

Synaptic program. With Synaptic you have more control over the programs you install on your system. As a greater number of them. NOTE: At the moment, Synaptic uses apt-get.
The Adept program. Adept is the KDE version of Synaptic, included in Kubuntu.
The apt-get or aptitude. These are more advanced programs that run in terminal mode. They are very powerful and also let you add and remove applications on your system among other things.(Aptitude is more complete than apt-get, remember the libraries downloaded and uninstalled if used). To view the help of any program running in terminal mode (man nombre_del_programa).Example: man aptitude
Deb packages. The files with extension. Deb packages are ready to install applications in a simple way for your Ubuntu system.
Binaries. Files with the. Bin are executable programs on Linux.
Run files. Files with the. Run usually wizards for installation in Linux.
Let's see now each one with its peculiarities.

The Ubuntu software center is the easiest method of installing programs. It is from version 9.04 on ubuntu and replace to add and remove programs from 9.10.

It just has to find the program you want to install from the sections (departments) that offers or use the search engine. The browser can use to search either the name of the program or any word that appears in the description. If we find a word processor, for example, we can write the word in the search text and see how programs are linked.
Clicking the right software installed we can see what we have installed and uninstall it if you wish.
