If you have been buying a lot of cds and books, you may of course lose track of all that you have bought and end up buying again. Here is a novel solution for this common problem in the form of the Groqit. Groqit stores the barcode of all the products you have bought so that you don’t buy the same product again and even if you forget it would all be stored in the Groqit. The Groqit reads, stores and organizes barcodes and thus you will be able to manage all your shopping. The device looks like a pen and is battery operated and the scanner scans the barcode and stores it. With 128MB built-in storage, it can store more than a million barcodes.

When technology is evolving at the rate of knots, gadgets of a long-gone era evoke feelings of nostalgia. A battery-powered analog synthesizer is not something you would find at a regular music store or a Gen-X gadget house. All the more reason why we believe the Paia OZ is a collector’s item. Perhaps the last of its tribe, the analog synthesizer makes no bones about its antiqueness. However, what impresses us most is its 5-Octave range that maintains, to our surprise, a low bass. The Paia OZ featured here comes with a built-in speaker and original schematics. One of the key selling points of the synthesizer was its touch-sensitive plate and portability. As a polyphonic keyboard source, it was also a desirable ‘mixer and modifier’ for budding musicians. If you love to hoard musical memories of the past, the synthesizer has just found for itself a prospective buyer!

Ecologists are crying hoarse over the extensive use of eco-detrimental plastic, and this has forced quite a few gadget-makers to opt for an image make-over. A few others have tried to establish their USP by developing ‘eco-friendly’ gadgets. For MemoTrek Technologies, therefore, the development of a bamboo USB flash drive made perfect economic and brand sense. The ‘Woody Bamboo’ is high on aesthetics and ecological value, while retaining the primary purpose of a USB drive – data storage. The NAND based flash drive will be available in 128MB, 256MB, 512MB, 1GB, 2GB and 4GB variants. The high speed USB 2.0 certified memory stick sits inside a ‘green’ shell made out of hardened bamboo that can last for eternity. Designed primarily for corporate use, Woody Bamboo will make an excellent promotional gift.

As an amateur artist, while strolling through the woods and listening to nature’s melody, you could have murmured some self-made jingles. A voice recorder was probably the only tool you had to capture those compositions and judge whether you could make it to the next American Idol! If you want to leverage your passion for music to another level, Compose Music Tablet could be your mobile composition solution. This musical notepad is only a design concept and we’re not very sure when it would actually land in the hands of music buffs.

With the nano age closing on the humans the only gadget (well, somewhat) that remains to be compressed is the age old refrigerator. The noise and the massive size that has only increased with time needs to be taken care off and the good news is that a group of researchers from UK has started thinking about the portability factor. Not just that, the level and the speed of cooling would increase ten-fold and this is evident in the initial stages of the research. Also, the noise which is a big problem would be catered too, thus making the entire development an embarking achievement in this field. The environmentalists would also adore this piece of information as the change in technology would see the overall energy consumption go down by 15% in UK alone. The breakthrough is a consequence of a new approach that constantly applies electric field (force) to long molecules dubbed polar polymers. The need of rubber (now a more specific process with reduced harmful molecules) that adds to the noise factor would simultaneously be eradicated. All that we now hope for is that this discovery turns into a utility that makes the entire affair of refrigeration a cherishable one.

Ever wondered if you could travel faster than the speed of light? According to physicists Gerald Cleaver and Richard Obousy, interstellar voyages could be possible when warp drive would be turned in to reality. Matter can theoretically not travel faster than light and for this purpose; the spaceship might be warped in ’space’ for space has no limits on speed whatsoever. In order to create this space bubble in which spaceships move, the dark energy would be used. This mysterious and poorly understood cosmic anti gravity force may be the answer to building spaceships that have a super-luminous speed. According to these scientists, such a warp would also draw from the string theory in which scientists believe that there are multiple dimensions in the universe. We are only used to length, breadth, height and time. According to these theorists, there could be as many as 10 dimensions. This mind-boggling research may change every known philosophy and scientific theory and help us reach stars, literally.
