There rarely are notebooks that floor us. But this CES there have been a host of them that have kept us in the hunt for features and most for a mere look at them. Nano-powered notebooks were missing here until now, therefore when Dr. Mobile introduced a VIA Nano-powered notebook based on the OpenBook reference design at CES, there was no reason why we wouldn’t have it here. Dr. Mobile’s notebook dubbed the FreeStyle Mini will be an 8.9-inch, 2GB RAM and 160GB hard drive notebook. Featuring 1024 x 600 display, the VIA Nano-powered FreeStyle Mini with VX800 chipset and integrated video decoding will also support Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS and optional 3G/Wimax. Dr. Mobile also has a 11.6-inch notebook running on VX800 chipset, supporting 1366 x 768 display and VIA Nano 1.3GHz processor. Stick around for more on Dr Mobile’s laptops that may be available sometime in February.

Some things are gorgeously appealing without the looks, and some are appealing from both within and outside. The latest entry from Sennheiser, the HD 800, is a pair of headphones that fits well in the latter slot. Made public at CES, Sennheiser’s stunning HD 800 headphones stand out, owing to the amount of innovation that’s gone into the making.

Featuring a new technology in the driver system which helps reduce the low-end distortion that all headphones suffer with, the HD 800s are doughnut shaped and have Teflon-insulated, luxurious fabric-coated earpads. Coming home for about $1399.95, we ain’t taking the risk of picking these before we’ve tested them, but there isn’t a way that we can refrain from it otherwise too.

No better place to be in than Las Vegas. The kind of gadgetry that’s up for display here is just breathtaking. Dell’s added to the window flair, having official confirmed their new notebook, the Dell Adamo. Nothing is yet revealed for the specs, but it is evident that the all- aluminum luxury laptop will be made available for purchase in the first half of the year. Images showcase the fact that the thin black beauty houses three USB ports, a display and an Ethernet port. Dell has also unveiled a netbook, the Mini 10, featuring a 1.6GHz Atom processor with a multi-touch trackpad. The potential customers can track back for more later.

On the grand platform for consumer electronics, where we have seen music players like the Samsung P3, this Chinese-made music and video player would only be a modest induction. Delivered on to us by SATY, this MP3 player (if that’s what we can call this) however, features a flashlight, a radio, a mosquito repeller and a Breathalyzer. Charged by pulling a string constantly, the battery-powered player can be carried around, but given the Breathalyzer, none of us would want to carry this for clubbing or partying of course, or will ya take the chance?

Gadgets galore at CES this year, as always. Among the host of devices that are on show you may miss is a UMPC, and you’d hardly be blamed. Yet when the device in question is as sleek as this one, an oversight would be criminal. The MBook M1 looks so neat and tiny that it becomes an automatic winner. This ultra-mobile PC seems to be the normal deal but its keyboard looks usable, quite unlike some of its more touted competitors. The Windows-based UMPC keeps its size small and yet promises ease in usage. That said, it is rather unfortunate that the device has no USB ports. Still the MBook M1 gets full marks on looks in my book. What say you?

Asus, under its EEE brand, announced the release of its latest entry, the Eee D200 media server, at CES 2009. This media server has a small 3.5″ LCD touchscreen panel, Intel Atom processor, Wi-Fi 802.11n and up to 2TB of storage. It’s a fair assortment of some real mind-boggling attributes, such as Windows XP, 2GB DDR2 533 MHz RAM, 512 Flash ROM, 2 HDDs of 3.5″ SATA2, Ethernet LAN and 5.1-channel surround sound. As per expectations, the opening model will be priced at around $600 (EUR 440). Definitely not much to ask for this feature-rich product. Or is it?

At CES 2009, SanDisk unleashed its G3 series of solid state drives (SSDs). The two variants, dubbed the SSD C25-G3 and SSD C18-G3, are offered in the standard 2.5″ and 1.8″ form factors, respectively. Both are available with a SATA-II interface providing 40,000 RPM speed and a predictable sequential feat of 200MB/s read and 140MB/s write. ExtremeFFS and a new SSD algorithm lend them great performance. The SSD drives have up to 60GB, 120GB and 240GB storage capacity. As per the reps, the respective unit MSRPs for the drives are $149, $249 and $499 only, and will be available in mid 2009. Well, as is expected, the G3 SSDs may replace various notebook PC HDDs in the near future.

Oh boy! Where are we heading with the bots? Anybots’ QA is a new rage here in the mechanical world. The QA, a telepresence robot that’s attractive to look at, is the best around, with those bright-lit blue eyes on a cuboid head, which rests on a neat and curvy torso housing a screen. Controlled by a remote, the QA supports Wi-Fi connectivity, therefore the robot can be used for communication and can be controlled from anywhere.

The screen on the chest is used for the telepresence purpose, showing the image of the person talking and the voice too can be heard through the built-in speakers. There is a likely possibility of the armless QA being made available for corporate interests, for about $30,000.
