The good: The Garmin Nuvi 50 has a large screen and easy to use and easy to understand interface. Text-to-speech speaks street names, and color maps also help to ease of use.
The bad: The text and graphics appear pixelated on closer inspection. The dashboardmounting disk and USB sync cable not included in the box.
The end result: the formula for devices Garmin GPS input level does not change much with the new Nuvi 50, but small tweaks, a lower price, and a giant screen to increase the value.
Design
The Nuvi 50 is built around a 5-inch WQVGA color (480x272 pixels) with resistive touchsensitivity. There is only one physical control are in the 50 Nuvi chassis, a power buttonalone along the top edge of the unit. Hold this button momentarily to switch the unit on and off. Pressing this button when the unit is in the use of calls from a menu screen with the brightness of the screen and a virtual button depowers also unity.
Interface
Garmin menu structure has not changed much over the past decade. Put the Nuvi 50 next to the Nuvi 200 I took in 2007 and realize that most of the buttons and icons are exactlywhere they should be, for better or for worse. As the saying goes, "If it is not broke do not fix it." Garmin simple interface has been one of its greatest assets, and it is certainlyworking for 50.
You can buy this device $ 114.
