Japanese cellular service provider NTT Docomo has showcased a two-sided transparent touchscreen prototype. The completely see-through screen is able to accept inputs from both the sides. Well, you can operate a device with the two-sided display from both the front and rear ends. However, Docomo hasn’t showed off any device with such a screen yet.

You will be amazed of the potential use of a two-sided display. Indeed, as of now, we have no consumer gadgets with such a screen. But, the Docomo team explains that it is a nice idea to implement the screen with smartphones and other devices to make gaming a more brilliant experience. Many new applications can make the display a great innovation out there.

In a two player game, the two sided touchscreen can open up a new horizon. As well, according to Docomo, it can be utilized on handheld devices akin to computer keyboard’s shift key. That is, you can use shift key on one side and type capitalized words pressing the other side of the display. It also has a great capability in letting you tackle the Rubik’s Cube challenge easily.

Docomo, however, admits to The Verge team that more applications need to be developed for this innovative two-sided touchscreen. Variety of applications and games can be produced with focus on utilizing the two sided touchscreen of the display. Being a big shortcoming, the display doesn’t show content clearly under direct sunlight. The designers suggest to hold the screen to dark background for better display in sunlight.
