Nike+ FuelBand makes self-tracking simpler and engaging

The sports giant Nike has amalgamated science with sports in its latest offering – the Nike fuelband. The wrist band shaped fitness meter introduces a new metric FUEL to measure body’s daily activity. All the normal parameters like calorie, time and steps will be available on the meter with this new game like feature of fuel points. The band will work on the amount of your oxygen intake unlike calorie burnt and this is important because amount of calorie dissipated changes widely with body structure which is not the case with fuel which will bring all to a common platform.

The fuelband has an amazing design, courtesy Nike. The display comes as a patch with an LED display for clear vision in sunny days. There are additional twenty LED right below the main screen. These LEDs have a sequential glow which turns from red to green as your fuel points increases. The newly added fuel feature is game inspired wherein you achieve points for your work. This motivates a person to work more to achieve more fuel points. The band will encircle your wrist all through the day and your wrist movement will increase the fuel points. That means even you are playing a Frisbee, it counts. Fitness geeks can set their daily target in the band and see it achieving via LED lights going red to green. The feature is highly motivating since it enables you to beat your daily target and each day you go for more. Fuel, the new metric is devised by keeping the sports dynamics in mind. Your actual work is shown in real numbers as fuel points. The band looks beautiful with just a weight of around 32 grams that means you don’t even know you're wearing it and at the end of the day you can see how much fuel have you gained.

There are some highly acknowledging features that set it apart from the rest. The foremost of them is FUEL. The amount of calorie burnt varies from person to person but the new quantity Fuel remains same irrespective of the body structure. Fuel is calculated based on some complex science equations and body dynamics. This means that athletes can now go for real time analysis. The band also offers to see the calorie burnt for an amount of fuel. In fact you can switch to the calorie display whenever you wish to, with other measures of time and steps working as the same. The band has a built in USB port to store your daily stats on your PC with a support from Nike website, that means you won’t lose your data and can easily monitor your growth. Along with the USB, band is equipped with Bluetooth synchronization ability for iPhones and iPads with the help of upcoming iOS applications. The back up support is of about four days before it’s discharged which makes it very less demanding gear. The band is available in US at a preorder at a price of 149$.
