how to network a drive without a UNC name?

As we know that universal naming convention also known as UNC is used for identifying the location of printers, servers and other resources on a LAN. I am facing a problem as I want to map a drive network but I cannot do it without UNC name so guys tell me how to network a drive without a UNC name?

If you don’t have a UNC path, you at least need the ip address. The ip address can be alternatively used in place of the UNC path to browse to a network computer or device. In case of a network computer, you can access it with ip address and then browse to the required folder. You cannot map a network drive without a UNC name or ip address. Otherwise, the only other available alternative is to manually browse to that location by looking into various folders. Microsoft Support has a knowledgebase article in regards to this issue. Kindly go through the Microsoft support page and you are bound to get your answers. I am pasting the steps here for your convenience. These steps talk of a workgroup environment but they should be also valid in case of a domain network.

To open a file whose UNC name you do not know, follow these steps:

1. In the program you are currently running, click Open on the File menu.

2. In the Look In box, click Network Neighborhood.

3. Double-click the computer you want to access. If the computer is out- side your work group, double-click Entire Network and then double- click the appropriate workgroup. Then, double-click the computer you want to access.

4. Double-click the folder you want to access, and then double-click the file.
