The process of exporting Outlook email to Thunderbird on Windows is very easy. Export and import from Thunderbird to Outlook is not difficult either, just time consuming. Both forms can be done.

Outlook to Thunderbird

This is actually very easy. The first thing we need is all your email in Outlook. Then, when configuring Thunderbird asks if you want to import email from Outlook. Say yes and it does all the work. No, Thunderbird does not have an import function for the PST file, but you can import anything that is in Outlook on the same machine. It's as easy as that.

Thunderbird to Outlook
This process is a bit more complex. Outlook does not import directly from Thunderbird email, however, with the right tools, and at some point, you can do.

The first thing you need is a program called IMAPSize. It is a free Windows application that has a built in tool called Mbox2eml. This useful program is used to convert the mbox files from Thunderbird email in eml files. Mbox files are in your profile folder Thunderbirds (usually in the mail -> local folders). If you do not see the files with mbox, then those who do not have a.

The disadvantage here is that each folder you have in Thunderbird is a separate mbox file. You have to convert each of them. Nothing in the folder will be converted too, and you can start to lose your folder structure. Oh, well, you can always put it back together later.

Once everything is in eml format, now you must start Outlook Express! Yes, Express. No need to configure an email account in there, but you must set all folders to reflect what I had in Thunderbird. Then open the folders on your computer that were created from mbox2email tool and drag to the appropriate person eml folders in Outlook Express. You can drag and drop as many files as you like eml, but you can not drag a folder. Once you've copied all your emails in Outlook Express, you can now import into Outlook.

Start Outlook, create your profile and once all your settings, go to the import / export, import from another application and choose Outlook Express. If I remember correctly, first said he could not import the email then asked if I wanted to import all the emails. I said yes and all the folders and emails were imported into Outlook.

So there you have it. Importing email from Outlook to Thunderbird e-mail is very simple and import from Thunderbird to Outlook can do. Depending on the number of email messages and folders you need to determine how long it will take. Defiantly going from Outlook to Thunderbird is easier and faster!
