Given the sheer size Microsoft monopoly in the world of computing, it really is something of a shock that the company doesn’t have anything to rival the iPad. But all that may change soon as Microsoft is rumored to be ready to launch an “iPad Killer” as soon as next week. From the rumors circulating around the blogosphere, we can tell you that the Apple iPad rival would run on a version of Windows 8 called Windows RT and the touchscreen tablet would be made in-house by MS.

Of course, there are other and equally potent rumors that suggest that the new Microsoft device might be nothing like an iPad and would be simply a “reader” like the Kindle Fire developed along the lines of the scrapped “Courier” project that the firm was working on between 2008 and 2010. That device was a dual-touchscreen folding tablet and one can half-expect the June 18 launch to announce a variant of the same given how almost all possible variation of iPad-like tablet are already in the market.
Microsoft of course has been working on the tablet-style PC for a very long time now and has even scrapped a number of projects along the way. Experts say that this procrastination has cost Microsoft dearly since Apple launched the first iPad around the same time that the Courier project was killed. The rest as they say, is history but one wonder what can MS have up their sleeve that would be so spectacular that it would make people wanna dump their iPads for.
We are vouching for the dual-screen touchscreen tablet that would hopefully let us do the same wondrous things that most android-based tablets let us do. However, given the fact that Microsoft already missed the touchscreen phone boat when they failed to produce a worthy rival for the Apple iPhone, we wonder whether their new launch might just prove to be the Google Plus to Apple’s Facebook!
