Should major multi-site news companies build their own news aggregating apps?

With examples like Flipboard and Zite, should major multi-site news companies acquire their own News aggregating applications? The way Flipboard and Zite are rapidly gaining market share and many users digest content exclusively through them, it is becoming a big issue for companies like AOL which are being considering of building their apps. Does it really make sense for them to create their own news aggregating app to acquire one?

It is a good idea to launch your own news application, no harm in that. It is a type of marketing strategy which is been amplified with the hunger to munch as many news snippets as a social man can at a time. With the exorbitant advances in the field of technology, it has become a need of the hour to be abreast, both as a news reader and as a news providing agency. I say if your news agency is not strapped for cash and is blessed with a plump budget then you should really consider it as a possibility to design your own application and launch it either with Apple or Android.

The cost of creating, launching and then marketing the application will be ginormous, can range in millions of dollar. And as far as AOL is concerned, it is a giant and will not have any issues except completing with the deadline of churning out quality softwares.
