How can I get my Magellan GPS to function again?

I hit the One Touch button on my Magellan 5045 and the screen went blank. I am unable to get back to the home screen; I connected to my laptop and thought to do a software update. I registered the device and downloaded Content Manager. It said there was an update available. I tried the update, but got the error message. I disabled my firewall and virus protection and tried the update again, but got the same error message. I entered a new address and tried syncing, to no avail. Now the screen is frozen. Now all I have on the screen is the icon showing the Magellan connected to a computer. There is nothing else happening. How can I get my Magellan GPS to function again? Please advice. Thanks.

Before going through the guide I want to say you that do not try to press a factory reset on Maestro GPS device by pressing down the both buttons the “Reset” and the “Power” buttons. By doing this it will format the whole data present in the hard drive inside the GPS unit. If you doing the mistake it will erase all the data, including the GPS firmware software from the unit. Your problem may be due to the software error or firmware update or may be occurred due to your miss handling. A reset button will reset the GPS unit by clearing up any minor error due to miss handling. It will also restore the GPS unit to the setting of its factory default settings. Your problem will solve by pressing the “Reset” button. Here is the guide how you will reset the GPS unit, first of all you find the “Reset” button, it may be on the left, right or may be on the bottom of the unit. Secondly using a thin object, such as a paper chip and depress for 2 to 3 seconds. See the device should reset. If it doesn’t then, immediately press the button once more and hold it up for 10 seconds.
