Need some Linux boot disk reset Windows password help?

I am running Windows xp DP2 on my home computer. I went on a vacation and changed the password before leaving. Now I can't find it out. Is there a way I can find that out? Someone told me to use the Linux boot disk which I have. So, please provide some Linux boot disk reset Windows password help?

There are many Linux based boot disk applications available on the internet for free that can be used to reset a forgotten password on Windows XP, such as Ubuntu Live CD. But before we try to get cracking, we can use a more simpler way to delete the administrator account altogether and create a new administrator account using the Windows's Safe Mode. To do this:

(Note: Please note that some people say that this does not work, but it worked fine for me on my Windows XP SP2 edition)

1. Restart your computer.

2. As soon as the computer starts, press F8 on your keyboard to get into Safe Mode.

3. From the Windows advanced options, choose 'Safe Mode' and Enter.

4. Once the system is loaded, go to Start, then Control Panel then click on 'User/Accounts'.

5. Now chose the administrator account whose password has been misplaced then click on it.

6. From the shown options, click on 'Delete the account'. Then, it will ask if you want to keep the files associated with this account, you should choose 'Keep files'.

7. Once this is done, you can restart the computer; you will be able to load the Windows without any log-on password and then you can set a new password for the administrator.

Now, an alternate way to reset or change Windows XP is to first create a bootable Ubuntu Live CD or a bootable Ubuntu Flash Drive. Let's stick to the bootable CD for now.

In order to get cracking, you need 3 things:

1. You need to download bootable Ubuntu and burn it on a CD. You can download Ubuntu and follow the instructions to get your Ubuntu Live CD.

2. Once your Ubuntu Live CD is ready, you need to load your system with the Ubuntu CD and then follow the instructions as explained.

3. This way you can successfully boot disk reset Windows password.
