The Lasso is an inventive tapeless digital video camera from a creative tech firm, called RUX. The advanced portable camcorder seems to raise some challenge to the Flip, a famous tapeless camcorder form Pure Digital Technologies. Fortunately for the Lasso, which is about to enter the market, production of the Flip has just been halted by Cisco, which took over Pure Digital three years back.

However, in form, Lasso is not like the Flip video camera, which is just a mobile phone-like gadget. Indeed, decline of the Flip started with the arrival of smartphones with built-in digital cameras. The Lasso comes up with a different body. The video camera is just a part of a small tablet that strings the camera with a flexible wire.
Well, the Lasso is one device with two discrete components. The first one is a portable small camera, which is waterproof. You can take the camcorder anywhere you want. Its tiny size helps you capture images and videos from anywhere like a pool, flight and others. The camera sports microphone, zoom function and start/button. It comes with a rounded shape in pure white color.
The other component of the Lasso device is a media tablet that rocks a 3 x 5 inches LCD display, front facing speakers and adjustable kickstand. The tablet, with a sleek soft-touch frame, ropes in the camera with a string resembling cable. The tablet has a tapered body and it features a groove on an edge to let the Lasso camera rest upon in comfort. The camera will look like a webcam on a tablet.
In fact, the camcorder is directly connected with the tablet through the cable. Users can put the tablet in pocket and use the camera to capture videos. The camera can be unwound from its holster on the tablet to the desired length. The separation between the camera and mother device has a strategic benefit, indeed. The tablet’s large screen size for optimal playback helps the camera capture video in better quality.
At the same time, portability (wearability) of the camera is kept up superbly. As a whole, along with having the advantage of mother device at the end of the cable, the Lasso video camera is portable too. Users just have to slot in the tablet in their pocket with camera ready for shooting in hands. The combination of the two devices realizes a powerful 1-2 punch i.e. a large screen and a small camera.
RUX has not cleared when will the exciting camcorder will be up for grabs, nor has the company cleared anything on its possible pricing and more details about the specs and software. RUX is a firm that calls itself a creative company, where “lightning would strike twice daily.”
