Why my laptop is unable to read DVD disc?

I don’t know why but my laptop DVD is not working. When I insert any DVD on DVD drive it search for some moment and not able to read the disc. Some time it just hangs and when I plug out the DVD it just works swiftly. I had already cleaned the lens of the DVD driver but nothing seems to be happening. So I want to ask this from you people, what more I need to do to fix this problem?

The problem could be either due to faulty dvd drive or improper installation of the dvd drive. You can test by uninstallng and reinstalling the dvd drive. The steps are very easy and once you know how to uninstall a dvd drive, you can test with a working dvd drive and see if it works.

In most of the laptops, for uninstalling a dvd drive, you will have to locate a single screw that is holding the dvd drive at the bottom of the laptop. Before you start, you need to check your laptop manual for the location of the screw that holds the dvd drive.

Then, flip your laptop upside down and locate the screw and then unscrew it. This should release the latch that holds the dvd drive. Then, flip the laptop back to normal position and gently apply pressure on both sides of the dvd drive and pull it outside. The drive should come out easily. Then, take a working dvd drive and insert into your laptop.

For installing a dvd drive, the steps are just the reverse. You need to slightly apply force on the sides of the dvd drive and push it inside. Then, use the same screw and tighten it. Then, check what happens when you insert a disc. If it works fine, then try to re-install your old dvd drive, the one which is not working now, and see what happens. If the drive does not respond then the dvd drive that you have now is faulty.

If you don't have experience in installing/uninstalling dvd drives, then you should take it to the service centre and ask them to find the fault. If your laptop has warranty, then the best way is to call the technical support, because if you cause some damages then depending on the warranty some companies may not cover certain damages.
