Why my itouch not syncing with itunes?

I have a 2nd generation iPod Touch and for some reason my iTouch is not syncing with iTunes and does not show up in iTunes. I restarted my iPod and the computer but nothing is working. I do not have any idea what the problem is and how to rectify it I tried to find it on the internet but of no use. If someone have any idea or know how to fix it ……I would really appreciate

If you can not sync applications or can not arrange them on the screen of your iPhone or iPod touch, confirms that you followed the steps below. For more information about using your iPhone or iPod touch, consult the corresponding user manual you'll find support.apple.com / en_US / manuals /.For additional information about applications and the App Store, see App FAQs

Note: This article refers only to sync via USB. If you are synchronizing remotely with an Exchange server, see the support page for the iPhone in the enterprise. If you are syncing with MobileMe remotely, see this article.

Make sure you are using compatible software

To sync contacts or calendars on your iPhone or iPod touch, you must have installed the latest version of iTunes. See the User Manual of your device to see what contact and calendar software your computer is compatible. See this article if you need information on setting up and synchronize your device first.

Download and install the latest version of iTunes on your computer.

Open iTunes.
Use the included USB cable to connect the IOS device to your computer and select it in the Devices section on the left of the iTunes window.
Configures which items are synchronized: in iTunes, click on the tabs to specify what information you want to synchronize between your device and your computer IOS.

Connect your iPhone or iPod touch to your computer and open iTunes.

Select your device in the left column.
Click the Applications tab and select "Sync applications".
Select the applications you want to synchronize from the left column. You can select multiple applications by holding down the Control key on Windows or Command on Mac OS X while clicking the checkboxes.
If you use iOS 4 or later, you can organize your applications into folders using iTunes.
When you are satisfied with the changes, click Sync to transfer the selected applications to the device.
