iPilot: An advanced flight simulator for those virtual romps around the globe

Being one of the celebrated and fastest selling passenger jet airliners of all time, the Airbus A320 family aircraft has already manufactured some 4,858 units up until now. However, if you are a resident of Prague and want to enjoy the high thrills of flying an A320, we can assure you don't have to rush to the airport to deftly hijack one. A fully-fledged Airbus A320 simulator created in the center of Prague is offering flying aficionados and future aviators a glimpse into its cockpit and internal mechanism.

Christened as the iPilot, this state-of-the-art facility has it all to present you a lifetime experience of precisely simulated flight. In fact, the land dwelling A320 allows visitors to fully take control of the entire aircraft, and then test their mettle for flying. There are more than 24,000 destinations available, to which you have to guide your craft through a slew of virtually placed constraints like time compulsions, adverse weather conditions and even unknown geographical regions.

The interior of the cockpit replicates the bearing of an original flight deck, with all the paraphernalia of buttons. Of course, in this case, the windshields are composed of screens that simulate the exterior ambiance of the virtual flight. Moreover, the robust form of the iPilot actually does not move, but the essence of mid-air motion is captured by specially contrived video outputs shown on these windshield screens.

Coming to the core functionality of iPilot, the facility can be used for both casual fun time and professional flight training. According to its mother company, the simulator has been conceived to accurately recreate the so-called flying experience. And, once you traverse the level of 'taking-off', professional instructors sitting by your side would helpfully guide you through your indigenous, ground constrained flight.

In fact, the realistic adventure like feel is the major reason that has attracted a multitude of customers since iPilot's Prague opening a week ago. Furthermore, there is a clear conscientious side to the whole affair. According to flight instructor Jan Král, simulators such as this pose low cost alternatives (for interested aviators to expensive flying schools and training facilities. More to the point, there are a credible number of customers who actually go through this virtual exercise to get over their intrinsic fear of flying.

Finally, delving into the commercial impact of iPilot, the system had already debuted in 2009, in the city of Kent. Since then it has 'spread its wings' over numerous European cities, with plans to open up in exotic places like Istanbul and Doha. So, if the flying bug has already bitten you, you can always hope for an iPilot in your part of the urban neighborhood.
