Intel’s much-touted Medfield SoC-powered tablets are evidently to surface early next year. The tech world is abuzz with rumors over the imminent Intel tablets. Famous tech blog SlashGear has recently received some images of a potential Intel tablet with its own Medfield 32nm SoC chip. A SlashGear source has provided the images and a hands-on account on the upcoming tablet, which will bring a huge revolution in global tablet industry.

SlashGear has posted a pick of images it has received from the source that may possibly be a “foolish Intel worker.” The person has reportedly spent some minutes with the tester tablet from Intel. According to the source, the tablet that runs Google Android is out-clocking any dual core processor we have today. The device features power button on the left top and volume rockers to the right side of the power button. It has a headphone jack on the left side.
In addition, the potential Intel Medfield tablet mounts a microSD slot on the right side. At the bottom of the tablet, there are three connections apparently for a microUSB port, a mini-HDMI port and a wired power. The screen of the device retains fingerprints, meaning that its finishing work is not over, the SlashGear source adds. There is no mention about a slot for a Thunderbolt port on the tablet. It is quite likely that Intel will equip its tablet with the high-speed Thunderbolt port, developed by Intel in association with Apple.
Intel has been developing its own SoC chips for mobile devices. The chipmaker giant some months back revealed its plan to build mobile chips, named Medfield to take on the supremacy of the U.K-based AMD in mobile chip making. Intel has been a leader in chip making for personal computers for several decades. But, the company was too late to recognize the importance of mobile chip manufacturing. Explosive growth of tablet and smartphone market has booted up the possibilities of thin, lightweight and high performing chips.

Once it identified the scope of mobile chips, Intel started to work on Medfield chips for tablets and smartphones. The company also exposed its plan to build its own tablets initially with its chips. Certainly, being a key chip maker for desktops, there is better possibility that the company will get huge attraction from mobile industry also. Indeed, Intel is capable to manufacture high performance chips for mobile devices thanks to its long potential in the industry.
As per analysts, the tablet market will revolutionize next year with the mobile chips from Intel. As of now, AMD dominates the entire tablet market with high quality chips. Of course, Intel has to take on an enormous rival in chip making for mobile devices. We will have to wait a few more months to see whether the SlashGear scoop on the Intel tablet was true.
