What can be done to install Classic environment folder on Macintosh operating system?

I have a Macintosh iBook G4. It has OS 10.4 installed on it. I want to install a Classic Environment (OS 9) folder on it, and have a disc for OS 9.1. The only problem is that I cannot figure out how to install the Classic folder! I have some older programs that I need to be able to run, and because I don't have the Classic Environment, they won't run. How to install a Classic Environment folder on Macintosh operating system X? I would really appreciate your useful information regarding this. I hope to hear at the earliest from you guys out there. Thanks.

Given below is the list of steps that you would need to perform in order to run a Classic Environment over Mac OS X and avoid a clean install at the same time. The process outlined requires a bootable Mac OS 9 Software Restore CD.

1. Make all the folders visible temporarily. To accomplish this, you could use a tool such as TinkerTool. It can also be performed via the terminal command: defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool TRUE.

2. Next, you are required to insert your Mac OS 9 restore CD. The disc should contain a folder called ".images". Open the respective folder.

3. Double-click on the file called "OS9General.dmg". This file mounts a Mac OS 9 system disk image.

4. This disk image should contain a folder title "System Folder". You need to copy this folder to the root level of the Mac OS X start-up drive.

5. Now Re-launch TinkerTool and make all the hidden folders invisible again or use the terminal command: defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool FALSE.

6. Log out and then log in again. If all the above steps have been executed properly, you should now be able to start Classic Environment from its pane in System Preferences.
