Could you tell me something about industrial robots?

Well, I have heard about industrial robots but I have no idea about it. I’m 13 year student and want to know about all of them just for curiosity. Could you tell me something about industrial robots? I would like to know the role of industrial robots in the industry, how can it helps in the industry. I also want to know the pros and cons of using industrial robots. The different ways those robots can generate and control movements. I don’t need to much detail just a brief answer to each query.

Industrial robots are the real wonders of engineering. An industrial robot is a mechanical device that is controlled automatically, is reprogrammable and programmable multipurpose manipulator in three or more axis. A robot that is the size of a person can conveniently carry a load of hundred pounds and move it swiftly and repeatedly. Moreover, these robots can work for 24 hours without stopping. These robots are programmed at the time of manufacturing and they continue to perform the same tasks again and again for several years.

Generally, the most frequently used robotic configurations are articulated robots, SCARA robots and Cartesian coordinate robots. A majority of the robots fall in the category of robotic arms. Some of the robots are designed to carry out any specific task again and again with a high degree of accuracy. Other robots are a lot more flexible depending upon the orientation of the task that they are supposed to perform. For instance, for extra accurate guidance, robots often have machine-vision sub-systems that act as their eyes. These ”eyes” are operated by very powerful computers and controllers. In case of modern robotics, Artificial Intelligence or things linked to it forms an integral part of their creation.
