Prominent Chinese OEM Huawei surprises the tech world with the world’s thinnest smartphone at CES 2012. Dubbed the Ascend P1 S, the Huawei smartphone is the slimmest ever with a density of just 6.68 mm (0.26 inches). It is an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich phone and boasts a PPVD back cover meant to dissipate heat. The Huawei Ascend P1 S has a thicker sibling, the P1.

The devices have the same specs besides the battery and thickness. While the P1 mounts a 1,800 mAh battery, the P1 S gets a 1,670 mAh battery making it the world’s thinnest phone. The P1 is slightly thicker at 7.69 mm (0.3 in) with a big battery inside. Apart from the battery, both models of Huawei smartphones feature same specs.
The Ascend Android phones sport a 4.3-inch 960 x 540 pixel Super AMOLED touchscreen for better viewing of the content. The devices are powered by 1.5 GHz dual core TI OMAP 4460 Cortex A9 processors, 4GB of built-in memory and 1GB of RAM. Features like 5.1 surround sound capability, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi and DLNA support make the Huawei Ascend P1 S and PI two exciting smartphones.
The Ascends sport 8-megapixel rear cameras with the backlight illuminated sensor. The devices can capture video at 1080p Full HD. For video chatting, the phones mount 1.3-megapixel front cameras. The Huawei phones will land in markets such as Europe, the Asia-Pacific, Australia, China, the Middle East and North America in April this year. The Chinese tech firm has not exposed the pricing and carrier details of the world’s thinnest smartphone and its sibling.
