Which are the best GPS units to show UTM coordinates of the locations?

I have used many GPS units in the field with Topo software; though have yet to purchase a vehicle GPS unit. I am wondering, do any (Tom Tom, C330, Nuvi) allow you to view the exact UTM coordinate of your location? Which are the best GPS units to show UTM coordinates of the locations? Do they also allow you to switch which datum you’re using? Do auto GPS units show UTM coordinates or allow changing of datum? I would really appreciate your opinion regarding this. Thanks.

Hi,

I haven't seen these features in the Tom Tom or the Garmin models designed for turn by turn directions. However Garmins handheld model GPS has datum changing and UTM coordinates for map making. The only way you are going to get these features is on a handheld or a pda style System. That information would only confuse the average user. Select a coordinate system. Most GPS units defaults to the datum called the world geodetics system . However most maps are referenced to a different datum the North American. A few maps are set to the north american datum which is virtually identical to. Check the maps information at the lower left corner of the quadrangle to determine the correct datum used in the making of the map. Correct datum is especially important of you are use the UTM coordinate system. Your GPS setting menu may presents several variation of to select from most users will select conus which is appropriate for the conus continental us.Thank you
