As rumors have it, Google is working on a pair of sci-fi heads-up display (HUD) glasses. The Mountain View web giant has not hinted anything about the HUD glasses for enhanced entertainment experience. However, there have been gossips over such a product since late last year. The 9to5Google first blew up rumors over the wearable HUD glasses from Google in December 2011. Anyway, the tech blog has now come up with more details about what it alludes as the prototype of ‘Google Goggles.’

The 9to5Google argues that their tipster has seen a prototype of the Google HUD glasses. Different from the previous imaginations, the HUD comes with an entirely new design and form. The heads-up display will be designed in a way that it will reside only on one eye of the user and it will not be transparent either. Earlier, it was expected that the Google HUD glasses would come in the form of a typical pair of sunglasses with transparent screens.
Amazingly, the heads-up display will be outfitted with a smaller front camera, which will let the user recognize the objects in front and capture low quality images as well. The camera will feature flash, thus you can even click images with better clarity in dark. The gadget will highlight a microphone for voice inputs and headsets for voice outputs. Navigation of the UI of the glasses can be simply done by tilting and nodding your head.
The entire device will be equipped with the specs of a generation old Android-based smartphone. Well, it will likely mount a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, 512MB of RAM and 8GB of built-in storage. Excitingly, the heads-up display will stay connected to the web via either 4G/ 3G network or Wi-Fi. GPS, maps and other location-based functionalities that will further enrich the glasses.
Hopefully, on wearing the HUD goggles, you can walk around everywhere with up-to-date information from Google’s location or similar services. For instance, if you are in search of a restaurant in an NYC street, the screen of the HUD system will guide you through the right path thanks to Google Maps, Streetview or others. GPS, Wi-Fi or other connectivity features will empower this stunning feature.
However, there had been no official word from Google on such a product. Some reviewers even went on to adjudge that it might just be an internal innovation at Google. The company might not have any commercial purpose with the pair of HUD glasses.
At the same time, some other sources would like to see the HUD project as a reality that Google should take to the customers in near future. Maybe Google will be considering unveiling the glasses in pilot program as it did with the Cr-48 Chromebooks. Anyway, we can rummage around for the heads-up display from Google keeping our fingers crossed.
