What can I do to make my Google sidebar gadgets working?

I was having trouble with my Google sidebar so I uninstalled it and then reinstalled it. Now, when I ask it to add gadgets, the sidebar freezes and I can't use it for getting on to the Internet or anything. I left it alone hoping it would eventually bring up the gadgets but it has been several hours and no luck. I have to restart the computer to get it back to a responsive state. Why are my Google sidebar gadgets not working just after I have reinstalled them? What can I do to make my Google sidebar gadgets working? My operating system is Windows Vista and browser in Internet explorer. Thanks.

This problem commonly occurs after the installation of Google Desktop. Due to compatibility issues, and the fact that Google is gradually discontinuing support for the Desktop, I would recommend that you shift to Windows Sidebar instead. It does have the drawback of fewer gadgets, but it will help to solve your annoying problem considerably.

In order to do this, reset your system restore points using your system tools. Make sure you set a restore point to a date and time before you started facing this issue. Try to restart after you do this and try again. If this does not work, go to your Start menu and type %appdata% in the search field. If you see a Google folder, delete it and restart. Please remember that you should see a Google folder, rather than a “Roaming” folder and a Google folder as a sub-folder of it. If deleting and restarting the Google folder fixes the problem, or if your Google folder is not a subfolder of the “Roaming” folder, good for you. Otherwise you will need to uninstall Google Desktop and install Windows Sidebar instead. Simply download Windows Sidebar from the Windows website, install the gadgets you typically use, and you’re all good to go.
