Wearable electronic multimedia gadgets are nothing new when it comes to grandiose concepts. But beyond the essence of fashionable flair, such technologies do have elements of practicality. How so? Because we as consumers have a narcissistic tendency to ogle at our gadgets, be it tablets or smartphones. Of course there is nothing the companies can do, which would prevent us from doing so. Now, futuristic technology comes into the picture, where wearable components can be inducted with our very body, while they can project a functional screen right in front of eyes. This would in turn solve the portability, along with an ergonomic layout and a more natural level of interactivity (between the user and machine).

Now, what we are describing should be an evolutionary form of the portable technology in the future. But when we break it into steps, the endeavor becomes much more credible and more importantly achievable. In relation to this, it really does not come as a surprise that electronic giants like Google and Apple are already working on such types of different wearable devices.
Firstly, coming to the grand scheme of Google, according to the grapevine, their researchers from X Labs have started working on a wearable prototype of a multimedia device and its peripherals. Their technology has a good chance to be related to heads up display (HUD), judging by prominent wearables expert, Dr. Richard DuVaul's move to Google (incidentally from Apple). In regard to this, sources are already pointing to the design of a special wearable glass that would be visually similar to conventional thick rimmed spectacles. Of course, on the display front, these glasses would intriguingly exhibit a heads up computer interface just like a geeky version of Terminator.
Now, as far as operating systems and software goes, the device would not actually be connected by Android. But rather it will communicate directly by Cloud over IP. Obviously, the contraption can make use of the internet connection provided by a phone or tablet.
Finally, coming to the workings of Apple, they too are all up for the inevitable wearable computers race. In this regard, numerous sources within the industry are claiming that Apple has already set its target on a bangle type iPod contraption. Supposedly to be composed of sturdy curved glass, these iPod bangles can be worn on our wrists. On the user front, the device would be infused with the Siri system to be controlled by our voice commands.
In allusion to the design and connectivity criteria, unfortunately there is very little info divulged by Apple or the related sources. But going by the design attribute of the latest iPod Nano, we can prudently summarize some of the features that can be available to the users. The Nano exhibited different user-selectable watch facades, which in turn could replace conventional timepieces on our wrist. As for connectivity attributes, the 'iBangles' can utilize Bluetooth 4.0 for wireless support. They can even take the more novel course of incorporating ANT+ like technologies, which are actually efficient in a low power output scenario.
