Can someone give me step by step instructions on how to install two operating systems on one computer?

Well, I will have two hard disks with 250GB each. I’ve currently got XP home and I’m trying to get vista rc1 as well. Is it possible to install two operating systems on one computer? I've got an external hard drive; so if possible, I’d like to install the operating system on the hard drive. Can someone give me step by step instructions on how to install two operating systems on one computer? If possible, will each operating system has a separate registry for each.

So the team has problems and you want to re-install your current operating system. This is simple, but very slow. This article describes how to reinstall, update, or start a new installation of an operating system on your computer.

  1. Decide what you want to do. Will you install the operating system due to problems, update your current version or to install an OS on a new computer? Make sure you have the new operating system to install the program. Windows and Mac require that you purchase a CD or DVD-ROM (s). Ubuntu Linux and others are free and can be installed from a flash drive too.
  2. A backup of data. If you are reinstalling the operating system, chances are you need to clean the disc. Backup your data before doing so, as everything on the disk will be destroyed. If you are simply upgrading, it's OK to skip this step, but you should keep at least the most important files on your computer.
  3. Thoroughly clean all hard drive information. This will ensure that you do not bring more problems in the new facility. For instructions on how to do this see the video in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfICZMMr0JM
  4. Boot Up. Turn on the computer and quickly enter the boot menu. The owner's manual for your computer or motherboard should have instructions on how to do. Be displayed on the screen for a very brief moment. Select the drive containing the installation disk (and make sure it is not in place). Save the settings and exit.
  5. Start the installation. You may setup a few minutes to load, this is normal. Once loaded, follow the onscreen instructions. If you are installing a new operating system on a new computer or reinstall due to a problem, clean the disc. Make sure you have save deverything you want to save before starting this process.
  6. Allow updates. This is especially important on Windows. Allow the computer to check for updates and install them. Find a "top 10 things to do" list for that operating system.
  7. Use it!There, now you do is entirely up to you. Set a password, install programs, alter, create user accounts, etc. If you have all files backed up, you can restore now. Or simply enjoy the fresh start and redo everything you want.
  8. Sit back and relax. The installer may ask for some information while it's installing, but for the most part, waiting is good. Near the end of the installation, the installer prompts last-minute information such as your name, team name, sign your name, password, time zone, etc., do not be alarmed by this, none of this information can be used to identify you, is all for personal preferences.
  9. Restart the system. Once complete restart the computer and log in. all at this point, you may need to install drivers. Insert all the disks that came with your computer or parts that are not an operating system, and allow the drivers to install (if necessary).
