Galaxy XMAS HUGS has air-cushioned arms to embrace you smoothly. The robot mounts a Galaxy Tab as its brain, which deals with the motion controls like dancing, hugging and singing. A Galaxy S II, which works as the heart, handles user interaction and commands on the robot. Well, processing powers of the flagship products from the South Korean company are rightly used to control the hugging robot. Its engineers have succeeded in their effort.

Shoppers will never miss the Galaxy XMAS HUGS as it is located on the second floor of Hillside zone at the Roppongi Hills. Any Christmas shopper, who turns out in the Samsung Café will find the robot and can get a hug from it. The functioning of robot can be viewed from across the world thanks to several cameras set up around it. The XMAS HUGS website brings to you the live coverage of Hug-chan.

The founder of RT Corp, Yuki Nakagawa and her husband Mr. Nakagawa are the persons behind the great project. When Yuki worked on the controlling parts of the robot, her husband designed the original RIC humanoid as the robot platform. The exciting product came into reality as they could combine the RIC humanoid with the Android-based Galaxy smartphone and tablet.

The robot works quite marvelously. It dances along with a Christmas song. Hug-chan shows hand gestures to invite a person ahead for a hug. Once someone moves near to the robot, it will embrace him/her warmly. Proper covering of the robot and its arms with cushion secures people up from any damage off its hard body.

Yuki is quite cheerful of the hugging robot project. Inspiration from Samsung has helped realize this massive project, she says. Hug-chan is yet another device that works on the processing powers from some Android products. Researchers earlier developed many devices, tools and technologies that work with Android products. In this case, apart from controlling the robot, Galaxy Tab displays two circles as the eyes of the robot, while Galaxy S II displays the diagram of the robot’s dancing. Get a cool hugging from the Galaxy XMAS HUGS along with your holiday shopping this time around at the Tokyo Samsung Café.
