The International Consumer Electronics Show (CES, 2012) has kicked off at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas on Monday (Jan. 10). Tech companies demonstrate their new products and upgrades at the world’s largest tech trade show to attract the spectators and media. All key technology makers take part at CES with a pick of stunning new products. Here, we've listed the best ten gadgets and technologies showcased on the first day of CES.
It is rather an unpredicted product for CES 2012. Polaroid has stunned the spectators with an Android powered Smart Camera. Yes, you read it right. The creative camera firm has utilized Android interface with Android Market to bump up its SC1630 Smart Camera with a 3.2-inch screen. For image capturing, it has a whopping 16-megapixel sensor with 3x optical zoom on a 36-108mm lens. Of course, you can connect the camera with the Internet via Wi-Fi. Thus, you can simply share images with friends on social media sites and send them as emails. The Polaroid camera may come out sometime this year. The company has not divulged both the release date and price of the product.
Sony Ericsson has floated up a SmartWatch, an extension to your Android phone. This Android accessory, a successor to Liveview, lets users control their phone over Bluetooth. With the SmartWatch, you can now answer calls, view SMS's, check e-mail and Facebook messages. Well, you needn’t pick up your phone whenever you receive a text. The SmartWatch also supports Android Market, thus you can download apps to enhance its usability. The gadget features a 1.3 OLED touchscreen and it weighs at just 15.5g. The SmartWatch will appear in stores in the first quarter of the year for $149.
JVC has announced the 2012 line of its acclaimed Everio camcorders at CES 2012. The new series of JVC Everio contains seven fresh models with sophisticated features including 1080p recording based on the AVCHD format. Well, you also have HDMI output, geo-tagging capability, built-in WiFi and a UXP mode with a 24Mbps sampling rate on the JVC camcorders. JVC will also avail a smartphone app for both iPhone and Androids to let users transfer videos to the handsets. Price of the new line of Everio camcorders ranges from $229.95 to $899.95 and JVC will start shipping the entire lot in the first quarter of the year.
BenQ has taken advantage of the CES 2012 to release its XL2420T and XL2420TX gaming LCDs in North America. The new BenQ gaming monitors are specially designed for professional and competitive FPS (first-person shooter) games, the company claims. The XL2420T and XL2420TX monitors are available in many screen sizes that include 17, 19, 21.5, 22, 23 and 24-inches. The price range of the LCDs falls in between $500 and $600.
ViewSonic seriously hops onto the 7-inch tablet market with an Android Ice Cream Sandwich tablet, dubbed the ViewPad e70. The new member to the ViewPad family is equipped with a 1GHz CPU and with 4GB of memory. The new ViewSonic tablet will support 1080p HDMI and Wi-Fi. The American tech firm has exposed little details about its new tablet. It has not further cleared how much the Ice Cream Sandwich tablet will cost. Perhaps, it will be available in the first quarter of the year itself.
Research In Motion (RIM) has highlighted its presence at CES 2012 with the second update to its PlayBook OS. The BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 has well addressed many of its predecessor’s shortcomings. BlackBerry demoed a new native email client, address book, a unified inbox and integration with the social media sites like Twitter and LinkedIn on PlayBook OS 2.0. The new version of the PlayBook OS also features the BlackBerry Bridge functionality to transfer content between smartphones, tablets and others.
Samsung has been one of the shining stars at the CES 2012. The Korean tech maker has displayed a set of Wi-Fi enabled cameras and a camcorder at the show. The very logic behind a Wi-Fi camera is to help users access various web services, such as Microsoft Sky Drive, PC Auto Backup, E-Mail, Facebook, YouTube and Picasa right from the camera. The top line model of Samsung’s new Wi-Fi cameras, the WB850F features a 16 megapixel BSI CMOS sensor, 21x optical zoom, 3-inch AMOLED display and it can shot 1080p Full HD. The DV300F, WB15F and ST200F are other Wi-Fi enabled digital cameras; the Q20 is the camcorder from Samsung.
Energizer has put on display a set of USB powered solutions for use in both cars and households. The new line of charging solutions is special with gorgeous LED lights. Energizer will shortly launch new 5W chargers, which feature either a USB cable or Apple dock connector. Each charger will be priced at $24.99. The 2-in-1 USB charger, priced $39.99, is yet another model, which combines both a car and wall charger into a single unit. Some more models have been also displayed by Energizer at CES.
Samsung Series 7 HDTV monitor is yet another worth-mentioning product from the company at CES 2012. The Series 7 HDTV has two models: a 24-inch and a 27-inch, both supporting 1080p. The Samsung monitors use 400-nit and SuperBright Plus panels, which the recently announced Series 9 laptop features. You can have a bright and clear viewing experience on the monitors, which rocks built-in WiDi, MHL and integrated TV tuner.
The final item in the list will satisfy the robotic-loving readers. The Mindstorms NXT is a Skype-controlled car, designed by Leon. Well, you can control the car from home through Skype telephony service. The light sensor on the laptop screen, which is mounted on the car, receives the Skype calls to propel the robotic car.
