The idea of Vertical Farming is that plants can survive at heights, along with humans. This concept was developed in 1999 by Dickson Despommier along with his many graduate students. At present, there is one commercial vertical farm that is located in the Paignton Zoo in UK. This idea however also caters to the problem of food shortage which is becoming tense with growing days as the population is believed to rise by 3 billion till 2050. Thus vertical farming would be a good option to feed people when land and water resources would fall short.
