How can one identify the fake att emails?

Hi all, I have heard that people are getting fake att emails however, yesterday I got a mail from AT&T saying that my account has been hacked somehow or will be closed or "marked as spam" and asking me to confirm my name, password, etc. The way this all text was written looks like very unprofessional and tidy so, I doubt that this is a fake att mail that I have received. Can some one tell me that how can I avoid such mails and how can I differentiate between att real emails and fake emails.

This fake att scam takes the form of a text email with a link but the link is cloaked to look like a genuine AT&T web page link, which it is not.

This link also exploits one of the known bugs in Internet Explorer browsers which allows the URL,site address that is shown in the browser address bar to be spoofed. This also means that if you use that link, Internet Explorer browsers will be opening the forged page that it points to,but with the URL.The true URL is actually something which traces back to Shanghai General Electric Co. located in china.

This bug has been largely exploited by email scammers of late, and they are eagerly awaiting a patch from Microsoft. The vulnerability is in chances that it can also allow a fake URL to be shown in the status bar of Microsoft Outlook and browser products at the same time while holding the cursor over the cloaked link. They have also set up a browser test cloaked link which you easily can use see if your browser is vulnerable. You are also allowed to check links in emails or web pages for cloaking using their link checker, and you can also check for the URL spoofing while loading at a web page using their URL checker.
