Yamaha has developed ‘Acoustic Resonance Enhancement’ technology that enables to ‘age’ wooden guitars so that they sound melodious as if they were being played for twenty to thirty years. A.R.E is actually a drying process that adjusts the temperature, pressure and humidity of the wood so that it’s properties are transformed to that of older pieces of wood which in turn enhances the melody of the guitars. This is a process of enhancing the crystallinity of the cellulose inside the cell walls of the dead wooden cells. This process lasts for around 30 minutes and improves the Young’s modulus that is associated with sound propogation speed.
Analysis of the acoustic spectrums have revealed improvements in sustain effect in the low range, rising level in the mid to high range and decay speed in the high range. As reported by Yamaha, experts have praised this product as ‘Well settled’, ‘warm’, ‘mature’ and ‘excellent resonance’.
The L36ARE and L26ARE versions of this technolgy are available at ¥378,000 and ¥304,500 respectively.
