The model, fully functional, airport has been designed taking inspiration from Hamburg airport – the oldest operational airport in the history of the world.

The mind waggling model of the airport has been created to perfection and appears as though some giant picked up the original and magically shrunk it. The Miniatur Wunderland airport includes cars, tow trucks, airplanes; well light runways with blue and red lights, bright yellow lights to make the airport glow in the dark. Each path at this airport has been paint in white in order to direct the vehicles. The model also exhibits street lights and lamp posts, making it ever so perfect and making one wonder the amount and patience its making must have consumed.

Included in the model are 40 airplanes, inclusive of both Airbus and Boeing, and 90 vehicles that operate on their own along the runway. Each of the aircraft reads a brand name on it such as Lufthansa, airberlin, Air France, TUI, Emirates and KLM. These automobiles exhibit self-directed movement due to a spectacular ‘carsystem’ installed in them that can be controlled by means of a computer.

The most alluring thing about this ‘small wonder’ is that these tiny planes can actually take off! The aircraft is connected to the base at the runway with the help of tiny wires that allow it to run and then lift it in the air at the end of the runway.

Paying attention to the smallest possible detail, this amazing creation allows the planes to park themselves at their respective positions, which is followed by slow moving walkways that attach themselves to the plane for the passengers to dismount. Planted to perfection, the little tow trucks with functional orange lights feature fuel tanks and in full discipline of the airport, indicate the direction before they are making a turn.

The original international Hamburg Airport had opened in 1911 and had a total area of 4,700,000 square feet then. The present airport has expanded ten times its original size and measures 5.7 square kilometres.
