World's first portable all-in-one DNA analysis system
You must have heard about criminal cases solved with the help of lab testing, especially to scan 13 DNA regions to create a DNA profile.

Generally, it takes a day or more to get a comprehensive confirmed DNA analysis inside of lab using different instruments and chemicals for required processes.
However, now whole lab can be carried on the spot within a briefcase for quicker identification.
To accelerate these processes and avoid the necessity to move the samples to lab, NEC Corporation along with Aida Engineering is on the way to develop world's first portable all-in-one DNA analysis system, measuring just 50 x 40 x 20 cm, to perform all the processes inside a single unit.
Within a short period of just 25 minutes, it can perform all the processes from taking cell samples to extract the DNA, generating copies through polymerase chain reaction (PCR), electrophoresis to create genetic fingerprints and in the end short tandem repeat (STR) analysis to get a complete genetic profile of victim.
This unit, designed specifically for enforcement officials, can speed up the repeated heating and cooling during PCR amplification to decrease the time required in lab.
This unit is waiting to be first exhibited at 18th International Symposium on Human Identification in October and Association of Sociology of Law in November.
NEC is putting an effort to make its release possible as soon as in 2008.
Because, it's rare that two individuals have same DNA profile or DNA fingerprints, this unit seems promising to help identify the right person at crime spot.
