
Spunning out of Philips, the Dutch company Polymer Vision has come up with a 5-inch or 13-cm display to both amaze and amuse us. The size of two business cards, the display, the ‘Readius’ is no bigger than other mobile phones and stands out as the world’s first to fold out when the user wants to read news, blogs or email. When it folds back together, the device gets a size that can easily fit into a pocket.
But, gadget fans! Hold your appetite, till it hits stores in mid-2008. It is sure to bring in competition for both Apple’s iPhone and Amazon’s ebook reader Kindle. What is more magnetic about it, is its large e-reading display, the e-reading’s super battery life and also high-end connectivity - but, all in the weight of a mobile phone!

The ‘Readius’ also has an electronic paper screen to display a black-and-white text and images, giving it a real look of a printed paper! The new gadget will not just help make phone calls, but also connect to the internet with high data speeds, using the third-generation mobile phone networks. A user can also set up email accounts, news sources, podcasts, audio books and blog feeds on their computer – just to push all these data to the device whenever it is updated. The cost of the Readius is yet to be disclosed.
